Back to Resources

This guide is for someone who receives a FaceTime meeting link by email, text, or another message and needs to join the call.

  1. Open the message that contains the FaceTime link.
  2. Activate the link.
  3. If you are on an Apple device, the FaceTime app may open. On other platforms, the call may open in a web browser.
  4. Enter your name if prompted.
  5. Choose whether to allow microphone and camera access when your device asks.
  6. Activate Join or Continue when you are ready.

Using the FaceTime app

In the FaceTime app, use the call controls to mute or unmute, turn the camera on or off, switch cameras if available, and leave the call. With VoiceOver, move through the controls by swiping left or right, then double-tap the control you want.

Using FaceTime on the web

When joining from a browser, make sure the browser has permission to use the microphone and camera. Use Tab and Shift + Tab to move through controls, then press Enter or Space to activate the selected control.

VoiceOver and headset notes

On iPhone, a two-finger double-tap can hang up the call. Some headsets can mute and unmute in FaceTime with headset buttons. With AirPods, a simple press on the stem may toggle mute or unmute, depending on your model and settings.

Troubleshooting

If people cannot hear you, check mute, microphone permissions, and whether another device or headset is selected. If you cannot hear others, check volume, speaker output, and whether your headset is connected.
